The hidden gem!
Beautifully restored Old Village house.
200 degree sea views and very private.
This 67 square metre property sits on a plot of 74 square metres in a quiet corner of the Old Village.
I have been walking past this house for years but never knew it was there, it is so hidden from view!
It has two terraces, both with wonderful sea views.
Above left: from the street this is all you see!
Above right: steps lead across the front of the tree and bushes and then up to the entrance, 22 in all but well worth the climb, for the enhanced privacy.
Between the street and the house the land is planted with bougainvilleas, lavender, mint, roses, geraniums, oleander, yucca and a “red apple” vine.
The property has guttering to prevent any damage during storms. This could be adapted to collect the rainwater if desired. The house is connected to mains water and has two sternas (water tanks); one of 5 cubic metres and another of 1.5 cubic metres.
Left: this is taken from the main entrance doors, looking down towards the street.
As you can see, this property is considerably higher than the street and the other houses.
The house was originally restored about 20 years ago, but was updated again about 5 years ago, including the electrical wiring and the plumbing.
The roof has been insulated for sound and temperature.
The lower terrace, which measures 3 x 2.5 m, is shaded by a pergola and the area around it is planted with bougainvillea, a lemon tree, jasmine, rosemary and roses. A wooden dining table will seat six people and it is not overlooked.
This terrace has wonderful sea views, and we haven’t got up to the second, higher terrace, yet!
Above: towards Patitiri and The Brothers (islands).
Above right: towards Kato Chorafi and Megalos Mourtias.
Right: towards Evvia.
Another arch leads from the breakfast room into the living room (5.5 x 4 m), which has a plaka floor, wooden beamed ceiling, Sporades style fireplace, wood burning stove and stairs up to the bedroom.
A feature of this room is the exposed piece of bedrock under the stairs.
This is now the very old part of the house, so the walls are very thick, keeping the heat out in summer and the cold out in the winter. A cupboard and shelving has been built into the wall in this room.
The property has a telephone line.
The shower room measures
2.25 x 1.75 m and is accessed from the breakfast room.
It has a plaka floor and white toilet and basin.
The shower cubicle is tiled.
There is a built-in storage cabinet.
The hot water heater is in the breakfast room and is gas powered.
This also provides hot water for the kitchen.
The stairs lead up to the bedroom which measures
4.75 x 3.25 m.
This room has a wooden floor, Sporades style ceiling, a window to the front and a door leading onto the upper terrace.
The bed has been custom built and has storage drawers.
There are also built-in wardrobes and cupboards.
Above right: the beautifully restored stone wall to the bedroom.
Left: The outside shower, which is solar heated with a large tank, replenished by electric pump from the mains sterna. It is the only shower that the owners use from mid June until mid September.
This shower has to have the best views of any shower in the Old Village!
The views from up on this terrace are really amazing!
Above left: you can look at this view from the day bed....
Above right: starting to the right; views of the Old Village with the sea and Peristera in the distance.
Above left: across towards Patitiri and The Brothers, with Peristera over to the far right.
Above left: The Brothers and Kato Chorafi.
Above: Kato Chorafi, again, and across towards Megalos Mourtias bay, with Evvia just about visible on the horizon.
Lastly; the view round to the right, across towards Evvia and right round in the direction of Skopelos.
The sun goes down over Skopelos, having spent all day shining on this terrace!
This really is a little gem.
It is in a quiet Old Village location, beautifully restored, well maintained, very private and with those incredible views.
This one is a “must see”!
At the top of the steps custom made double chestnut doors and shutters lead into the house. The doors have glass windows with the option of taking these panels out and replacing them with fly screens, when desired.
The doors open into a “breakfast room” (3 x 1.85 m) with plaka floor and wooden storage cabinets.
An arch leads into the kitchen (left) and a door, to the shower room.
The kitchen (3 x 2.25 m) has been beautifully, and locally, made, using chestnut to create simple, traditional looking wall and base units. The sink is a double marble one, with a marble splash-back and marble work surfaces. The floor is plaka.
The kitchen is equipped with a gas hob, a gas oven and an electric oven, situated beneath the original traditional chimney hood. There is also a new full-sized fridge freezer.
Double doors from the kitchen lead out onto the lower, covered terrace - ideal for serving outdoor meals!
The upper terrace measures 32 square metres and is partly permanently covered, partly covered with a removable awning and partly open.
It has a plaka floor and to the rear, a stone wall, with a day bed.
